Il 2021 potrebbe essere l’anno della vaccinazione di massa contro il Coronavirus. L’annuncio di diverse case farmaceutiche rispetto all’efficacia dei propri candidati fa si che il destino sia ormai tracciato. Da parte degli scienziati arriva, però, l’invito ad aspettare prima di tuffarsi in un entusiasmo incondizionato. Le buone notizie sono da salutare con soddisfazione, ma anche con un minimo di razionalità. Tra gli esponenti della medicina c’è chi sottolinea come ci siano dettagli ancora da verificare rispetto all’azione del vaccino. A confermarlo è Walter Ricciardi, consigliere del Ministro della Salute Roberto Speranza.
Nel corso della trasmissione di La7 L’aria che tira ha sottolineato come occorrerà vedere se sarà in grado di proteggre, oltre che dalla malattia, anche dalla capacità di diffondere il virus. E questo sarà un parametro che farà la differenza rispetto al futuro che attende l’umanità.

Il discorso è solo apparentemente complicato, ma semplificandolo è abbastanza agevole da recepire. Quello che ne verrebbe fuori è che potrebbe essere ancora necessario rispettare le norme per evitare che la diffusione del contagio generi problemi verso soggetti non ancora vaccinati. Nel corso de L’aria che tira la conduttrice Myrta Melrino ha rivolto a Walter Ricciardi una domanda precisa.
Il quesito riguardava la possibilità che, una volta vaccinate, le persone potranno fare a meno della mascherina. “Non lo sappiamo ancora”, ha risposto il consigliere del Ministro Speranza. “Nel passato i vaccini – ha proseguito – che abbiamo somministrato hanno protetto sia contro la malattia, sia contro la capacità di infettare.
Quello è il vantaggio di un vaccino che può portare all’eradicazione della malattia. Noi possiamo in questo modo bloccare la malattia e la trasmissione”.
“Dobbiamo sperare – ha concluso – che faccia entrambe le cose, nel passato ci siamo riusciti praticamente con tutti. Non vedo perché non dobbiamo riuscirci con questo. Però dobbiamo aspettare la documentazione ufficiale”.
